Balu Sandilyasa

Visual artist, Film maker

I see the world through images. For me, images are not merely visual representations but ways of understanding memory, experience, imagination, and human relationships. My own life has been an evolving image shaped by different places, people, ideas, and encounters.

Born into a traditional Indian family, I grew up observing the world around me and questioning the many ways people relate to culture, nature, and each other. This curiosity led me to study Photography and Visual Communication at JNAFAU College of Fine Arts, Hyderabad, and later Cinematography at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune.

My artistic practice moves across photography, filmmaking, video installations, and interdisciplinary art forms. Through these mediums, I explore themes of ecology, memory, indigenous knowledge, human traditions, and the relationship between people and landscapes. My work combines documentary observation with poetic visual storytelling.

Over the years, my films, photographs, and installations have been exhibited and screened at national and international platforms. These experiences have reinforced my belief that art can create meaningful connections, encourage dialogue, and offer new ways of seeing the world.

As an artist and filmmaker, I continue to experiment with visual languages that bridge cinema, art, ecology, and lived experience. I see every project as an opportunity to learn, collaborate, and deepen my understanding of the world through images.
